Channeling femininity all 21

I don’t think we the people really take in the acts of ‘self-care’ and ‘self-love’ for what it is. If it wasn’t for this pandemic would we have gotten the chance to slow down and really tune into what our bodies were telling us, if not for just a brief moment.

Femininity is a strength that has been downplayed for so long, yet the characteristics such sensitivity, supportiveness, expressiveness, affection and more are big qualities we look for in other people to build friendships and create bonds in relationships. That’s how the realest relationships last. So who does that start with? That’s right, with ourselves. Loving ourselves entirely Pooh. As JT perfectly tweeted it takes longer for some women to embrace themselves fully, but when you do it’s a liberating feeling.

It’s hasn’t even been 2 weeks, and social media has been going into a frenzy over Chloe Bailey’s Instagram content, in which she clearly embraces her sexuality. Personally I’ve battled with the essence of sexuality and what that really means. Is being knowledgeable of ones sex appeal and owning it; the same as trying to be sexy for attention? Furthermore what’s wrong With receiving attention, Wendy Williams asks for attention every Hot Topics episode.

Embracing sexuality is very much a form of self-love and self-care, and some folk still don’t get that and ion like that (because first of all mind your business). Modesty doesn’t equate respect nor does it stop attention. As feminine creatures it’s important that we realise the power in our sexuality before it is used against us. If in this pandemic you’ve had to learn to love your body all over again or maybe even for the first time don’t be ashamed to own that. We have one body in this life and if you don’t start loving it who will?

For 2021 I’m challenging myself to embrace femininity more, I want the attributes of a damsel in distress to applied to all black women, we are “authentic and delicate” just like miss Del Rey purr.
